GREAT IDEA FOR A SCRIPT. (EVEN as TV MOVIE OF THE WEEK
-- it’s THIRTY GRAND TV Sale, a FLICK it’s FIFTY GRAND)

I found a stunning ARTICLE on miscarriage of justice by PRARIE HOME COMPANION star, writer/producer, GARRISON KEILOR called "GRASS is not the problem." IT DEPICTED the cruel and unusual punishments for grass, legal remedies that make it three times worse than MURDER if you count penitenciary years. (His article is below.)

A gal wrote me back: “AMEN! ( Five months ago my youngest brother was moving from Michigan to Oregon so his band could play and live in a bigger city and as my brother drove through Utah because he drove a Westfalia "hippy van" he was pulled over and searched and his entire van was ripped apart. The police found less then 1/8 of an ounce and they decided to take him in and totally rip the rest of his van apart. Because he was actually MOVING and not merely on vacation, he had all the possessions he could take with him. His dog, his instruments and his life savings. ( My brother was very counter culture and since he played lots of gigs that paid in cash he didn't put all his money in the bank.) He had saved for 25 years and was just preparing to propose to his girlfriend and put money down on a house....anyway, when the cops found his money, they considered it "fair game", and said that since they had found an itty bitty bag of weed that they had the right to keep his money and they told him that they would put him in jail for 15 years if they wanted to...needless to say, he had to hire a hugely expensive lawyer, ( whom I myself considered to be a complete cheat, just as bad as the police) between them both he lost every last cent of his life savings and barely escaped Utah. He didn't have to go to prison but he did sit in jail two weeks before they allowed to phone his family and they also really screwed up his life. This is a kid who has NEVER had any legal trouble and has played many free benefits to help worthy causes....I did all I could to save him from being ripped off but because it was in Utah, I had absolutely no luck, however I did spread his story to many publications to show my outrage...It really was very very wrong. ( His money was pirated by the Utah police and the evil lawyers). Anyway, in my opinion, things are really screwed up regarding this subject, not to mention places like Utah that are so backwards that they can basically get away with all sorts of unconstitutional crap and not ever be called on it.....What can we do to change things? . 

THE War on Drugs:' A Foul Tragedy By Garrison Keillor from In These Times

December 6, 2005. A marijuana grower can get life in prison without
parole, while a murderer might be in for eight years. No rational
person can defend this. We Democrats are at our worst when we try to
emulate Republicans -- as we did in signing onto the "war" on drugs
that has ruined so many young lives. The cruelty of the Sentencing
Reform Act of 1984 is stark indeed, as are the sentencing guidelines
that impose mandatory minimum sentences for minor drug possession --
guidelines in the 1986 Anti-Drug Abuse Act that sailed through Congress
without benefit of public hearings, drafted before an election by
Democrats afraid to be labeled "soft on drugs." As a result, a
marijuana grower can land in prison for life without parole while a
murderer might be in for eight years. No rational person can defend
this; it is a Dostoevskian nightmare, and it exists only because
politicians fled in the face of danger. That includes Bill Clinton,
under whose administration the prosecution of Americans for marijuana
went up hugely, so that now there are more folks in prison for
marijuana than for violent crimes. More than for manslaughter or rape.
This only makes sense in the fantasy world of Washington, where
perception counts for more than reality. To an old Democrat, who takes
a ground view of politics -- What is the actual effect of this action
on the lives of real people? -- it is a foul tragedy that makes you
feel guilty about enjoying your freedom. If suddenly on a Friday
night the red lights flash and the cops yank your teenage son and his
little envelope of marijuana into the legal meatgrinder and some
bullet-headed prosecutor decides to flex his muscle and charge your
teenager -- because he had a .22 rifle in his upstairs bedroom closet
-- with a felony involving the use of a firearm, which under our brutal
sentencing code means he can be put on ice for 20 years, and the
prosecutor goes at him hammer and tong and convinces a passive jury and
your boy's life is sacrificed so this creep can run for Congress next
year -- this is not your cross alone to bear. If the state cuts off
your right hand with a meat cleaver on my account and I don't object,
then it is my cleaver and my fingerprints on it. I don't dare visit
Sandstone Federal Prison here in Minnesota for fear of what I'd see
there: People who chose marijuana, a more benign drug than alcohol, and
got caught in the religious war that we Democrats in a weak moment
signed onto. God help us if we form alliance with such bullies as would
destroy a kid's life for raising cannabis plants.
