WHY I LOVE RABBITS, BUT NOT TO EAT!

I knew you loved me. And I never once thought you'd try to EAT me.
HOLY MOLY! I am a breast-fed MAMMAL. Have some HUMANITY!

My urban street in West L.A., had a rabbit. I fed him daily. He was wild. Big old male. First nite he ate then left. Second night,  when he smelled me, saw me appearing with food, he raced around me in ecstatic circles, like ten fast circles all around me, very excited and happy. And he let me hold him. I realized what a high order of intelligence a wild rabbit has, what a big heart, quick mind. GRATITUDE! When I saw cage-held rabbits that my neighbor had in a wire cage off the ground, the apathy in them was so so intense! It reminded me of adopted orphan children, always a problem-mind, -- like canned peaches compared to real, ripe, solar peaches. They were dead almost. I always wanted to break into my neighbor's yard and let those caged rabbits go. But the wild male who occasionally visited my yard was a pistol. A real joyous heart.

What rabbit stories do you have?

From GMK: I have a rabbit living at home. It's a mini lop breed, about 3 lbs. She sleeps in her cage but runs free in my house during the day. She's litter trained and very affectionate. She doesn't often do the whole circle thing although she does follow me around when I'm home and loves to lick my face. She doesn't like being held much but will tolerate it if it's me. My understanding of the running circles is a show of effection that is most common in un-neutered rabbits. However, un-newtered rabbits that aren't allowed to run in the wild and be sexually active actually get cancer from sexual frustration. They are also much harder to house train.

Anyone that keeps a rabbit in a "hutch" outside is basically killing their personality. It's a shame cause they are very social if you let them be. Very loving, too. Litter train a young rabbit and treat it like a child. They are more loving, kinder and more rewarding.
