A lot of men (and maybe women) with superior computer skills will get itinerant jobs as PC fixers but only to get hold of your passwords, hard drives, bank account numbers, BITCOINS which are IN THE HARD DRIVE and  paypal accounts and such. No better PC fixer exists. Except for the FIX they will get YOU into!

HOW TO TELL A HACKER #1 - At the front door, as you greet him, his eyes reek guilt. Stare straight at him with a relaxed, grateful smile. There is no response. Deadness. Sadness and shame are in the face. He senses you saw it, so he will make some move as stillness makes him uneasy.

HOW TO TELL A HACKER #2
His fingers fly as he works on your PC. His key ring has l0 USB's. (thumb drives) Feel free to ask him how each is different. What programs are in them. Don't look away. Turn your back he fits one in slot, hits download and he OWNS your computer!
HOW TO TELL A HACKER #3
He tells you he can install software that links your PCs so that he can fix your PC without driving over.  That is a keystroke watcher. When you write the cops an email to complain about him, he will be over to your house in ten minutes to shoot you.

He can install a keystroke watcher when he claims "oh,oh, WIN 10 crashed But I know how to do a SYSTEM RESTORE. He gets your password and from that point on, he can enter your PC from anywhere and get every password you create ever. And use your checking account and VISA card.

HOW TO TELL A HACKER #4
After they leave your house, open the "MY COMPUTER" icon. See how your C DRIVE has HALF the free space it had an hour earlier. Or say, for the last YEAR! They stuck some key logger program in it. Change your passwords everywhere immediately. And don't use that PC for banking, ever again, or at PAYPAL. Plan on getting a new one with WIN  l0, pre-advertised as being BACK TO THE GOOD WAY.  Use that one.
OTHER ADVICE. Never pull out that notebook or little card with all your passwords written in plain English. CRAIGS LIST -- MYMOM10 and PAYPAL --DADDYSGIRL7 and BANK OF AMERICA - VILLAGELIVES10. 

Could you memorize that in l0 seconds? Well he can. He can sight memorize and you never see a pen move. And after all, his fingers flying on his laptop? Maybe that data he's moving seemingly TO YOU isn't for YOU at all!

So the biggest danger is YOUR HIRING a man to come into your home and not watching every move he makes. Some professional repair men with storefronts may hack if you look wealthy. You go to his shop, he sees the MERCEDES or LEXUS, you leave your computer behind in his hands for a week. HE WILL definitely look around for passwords to PAYPAL or BANK OF AMERICA and if you are not password protected, extract a few, key passwords.

So what to do? Don't leave a PC in anybody's hands. Find a college kid who'll come to your home, bottom dollar cost and watch him every second.  LEARN about their tricks by googling the subject.

Anita, Beware freelance techies.  You never know what they’ll try to pull. Best trick to own your info is to crash the system accidentally and claim to need to be in CHARGE to replace it.  Never allow them to remote access your computer or install software to allow remote access – especially over the Internet (LogMeIn, etc.).  Don’t let them install anything on it unless you know they’re above board.  Key logger programs have been around a long time to steal passwords, etc. and these guys have 'em.

If they come to your place and pull out a flash drive, ask them what is on it and if it’s clean.  Their drives can be infected and pass malware along to your computers. Just asking tells them that YOU KNOW WHAT THESE CAN DO and what THEY ARE DOING. SO MAYBE they won't do it.

Malwarebytes anti-malware is the best program out there.  I swear by it.  This is one you can download and run on your computer – they have a free version.  This is one I trust.  You can download it here:

This is from their site, not a rogue program at all. Not rogue software. A real corporation. Do a full scan on your system to see if it finds anything.

There’s a crook a minute out there.  Be careful when having people access your computers.
