It was middle JUNE 2015, The streets of LA's urban slums were littered with homeless seniors sunning themselves, some reading paperbacks, some standing, moving only to buy another bottle of water and then running back to their stuff because that day, the City Council had signed a new law called 5611 that gives cops the right to take their sleeping bags, books, food, water, refrigerator boxes and shopping carts if the homeless person walked more than a few feet. So the distance it took to go to lavatory in the park or the cheapest Super for water left them vulnerable to having all their worldly possessions confiscated.

Imagine that down the line, your job disappears, you lose your apartment, are evicted and have to make do on the sunny streets of So Cal. Then imagine that your box-house, bed, water and food disappear leaving you on hard, hot concrete and there is no way the cop or the city will return one bit of it to you.
Imagine you wander alleys looking for a plastic jug, a box big enough for a bed, some shredded paper for a mattress.

Though you hate to admit it, the hard concrete in downtown URBAN-IA has less mud, moisture and creepy crawlies than the prickley lawns of SUBURBIA so you have to leave them there with no bed, books, box or beer. You hope they are among the elected and selected for the beds at the skid row mission. NINETY PERCENT of homeless who should be in shelter do NOT WANT TO GO NEAR ONE.

BE KIND TO YOUR HOMELESS; You have old sleeping bags that you will not use again. You have paperbacks to give away. Socks, undies, loose dresses, comfy trousers, blankets. SWEATS and Ladies' LEGGINGS. LONG UNDERWEAR IN WINTER. Children's clothing, books. Toys. Drive down to Skid Row and set out a pile of such much treasured gifts. But stand and watch them until the poor people get theirs because the cops will be close behind to take it all to the trash yard. They don't take the seniors. There's no place for them.
