DOWNLOADING FREE BROWSERS ONLINE, the INS AND OUTSI wrote a tekkie pal to complain that it took too much time to download NETSCAPE BROWSER, which was offered FREE ONLINE. I was after a VERSION 4.7, my fave for the EMAIL CLIENT which is great list making, easy to manage easy to see... My tekkie pal answered "Sounds like you downloaded the base installer rather than the full program and it's trying to download more bits to set itself up. Also sounds like you have a slow connection and maybe interference from your firewall if you have one, also maybe a slow computer (not much ram). NETSCAPE no longer has its own site with all their versions. GONE WITH THE WIND. Maybe you can find GRAVE KEEPERS, achieve a download, not on a new WIN 8 machine but I've seen it work on O.S. (operating systems) before VISTA. I SAW IT WORK ON AN XP.

However it's a bit slow with all the technologically challenged trying to download the same crap browser. You could google around and find some free alternatives. If you want the same web/email functions as netscape you could try THUNDERBIRD. Mozilla made it,-- it's what netscape is based on and it sees sites much better than an old NETSCAPE which you could NOT SURF with; it would keep jamming and you'd have to reboot. I signed up for DSL and then never had problems downloading freebie shareware again. Not that I tried getting the big stuff on an old PC.
My old machines were slow. I could use NETSCAPE til 2015 on my mid 90's DELLS and the one with XP vintage from 2002 or something.
ONCE I had mastered the art of doing a download and install, I went and got a lot of different browsers being offered online. I use the free FLASHPEAK.COM "SLIM BROWSER" to default to WALLA.COM free email. Then Walla went all Hebrew, couldn't read a word on it. I used INTERNET EXPLORER browser which BILL GATES gave us with the machine, for YAHOO.com mail. I set defaults so it went straight to my mail box! I USE MOZILLA FIREFOX browers VERS II was last one that would work. Vers III killed one pc dead. I got a GMAIL account and Netscape and Lycos three free email services where I have a dozen addies each! In those days I used CRAIGS LIST for forty ads a Day, I needed many addies as you could only do two ads per addie. My old MOZILLA THUNDERBIRD browser defaulted to the MAILSHACK and NERDSHACK.COM email client.
Every browser needs an email inside it. Some come with one, some do not. However, you can set your browser to open or default to some FREEBIE mail SERVICE like GMAIL, YAHOO, MAILSHACK, HOTMAIL, MAIL.COM, LYCOS, NETSCAPE.
NETSCAPE has free email and it has free browsers. VERSION 8 is what they tout now, but for security reasons, nothing like VERSION 4.7 which to my way of seeing things and many other is a great free browser, it has a great email client inside it, similar to the HUNDRED DOLLAR EUDORA they wanna sell you! EUDORA EMAIL CLIENT used to be free, maybe some old version is, go look and tell me.
TODAY 2015 I have a brand new ASUS with WIN.8, use GMAIL and THUNDERBIRD for mail. Can no longer use the NETSCAPE BROWSER though it's on all the old PC's littering the house, but they won't go online. However, its design was so superior to all the other browsers, I can't believe somebody hasn't revived it.
