 Congress is holding a hearing to consider a horrible piece of legislation called the Financial CHOICE Act. We prefer to call it the wrong CHOICE Act, since it will gut critical regulations created after the 2008 financial crisis—regulations put in place through the Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform Act to protect consumers and keep us from suffering through another Great Recession.

This bad CHOICE is essentially a repeal-and-replace of Dodd Frank and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) that it created. The CFPB is the only federal regulator that has one single mission: to protect us from predatory student and payday loans, risky mortgages, abusive debt collectors, Wall Street wolves and more!

The consumer bureau has been doing a bang-up job of protecting us: You’ll remember how Wells Fargo was recently caught defrauding its own customers by secretly creating millions of bogus bank accounts in their names. It was the CFPB who put an end to it, fined the bank $100 million, and refunded fees to consumers!

Many in Congress have been attacking the CFPB for years, but this time they’re perilously close to doing some real damage.
