And finally FREECYCLER, in all cities across USA, where people give their freebies away. You can put it out that you'd pay for a vehicle, sweeten the deal.

At these public car auctions the prices can be quite cheap and depend as much on your fellow bidders than the cars themselves. Some days the public car auction will be dominated by dealers from car yards looking to get cheap used cars to fill up their lots, but if you time your run well and attend the public car auction when the local car yards are overflowing with cars, you can get used cars for cheap prices. If you want cheap used cars you should definitely look into repossessed cars as a possible source.
The trick to getting repossessed cars is to find out what happens to police seized cars after they have been seized. Local police are generally not too forthcoming with this information, and you have to do a little digging, but depending on the size of your city, there may be seized car auction held anywhere from once a year to once a week! Pick the prettiest girl in your family, send her into the police station to bat her eyes, smile and ask. I have a neighbor who attends these auctions regularly. I believe he had to be friends with an actual registered dealer to do this. But if you can hit the auctions, what a great way to find cheap cars.
Regardless of whether you are looking for used cheap trucks, used suv cars or just a bargain car to sell on for profit, the source of the cheap used cars should not change the research you do before you buy. If possible you should always get to a used car dealership, auction or sale early to make sure the pre owned cars start smoothly first time (second time is easier), and don't ever forget to make sure all the paperwork is in order. This applies especially to cars from the used car classifieds, but it's good practice to check out all cheap used cars history to make sure there are no nasty surprises for you after you buy. Call the DMV and give them the license plate and they'll give you all kinds of info on the vehicle.

NOTE ON CARE OF OLD CARS. A MECHANIC PAL WROTE ME: Walmart has a generic synthetic motor oil (Super Tech Brand) which I read is actually a grade 3 motor oil, which costs $17 for five quarts. Regular (conventional) motor oil is grade I and II, top of the line synthetic (Mobile 1) is grade 4, but grade 3 is a better choice for those who want to switch from regular to synthetic, because there is a 7% risk of an oil leak developing when switching from one to the other, and a grade 3 oil is less likely than a grade 4 oil to cause an oil leak. The advantage of a switch would be, less frequent oil changes due to the oil lasting longer. I would say however, that you should not switch, because of the age of your car, you would stand an even higher chance of developing an oil leak after a switch, due to the age of the gaskets and seals.
