My friend Corinne wanders the streets with a bottle of beer in a bag. She refreshes the beer hourly. It's embarssing to invite her to my family barbecues, but I do......because she's my only friend here in the colorful Mexican barrio where I rent as homes are cheap. And people are colorful like corinne. But when she regales my guests with funny stories, they note that she has this beer in a bag! However, all the same, her story is tragic and worth hearing
CLINT was a smart guy but he'd fallen out of love with Corinne. She was fifty, their two children were fairly successful, the girl married with babies, the son earning a decent living as a rug stomper or carpet installer.
Now Clint wanted out of the marriage but he knew Corinne would own half of everything. Their house was worth a cool half mil in LA's steaming hot real estate market.
So Clint began borrowing against the house, forging her signature or bringing her to an office where she signed, she still isn't clear on this. Borrowed Fifty k every time. The money was handed to CLINT as cash or cashier's checks and the money went, we know not where. She couldn't see it surface, later when she looked, as he'd taken his bank records with him when he left her. He knew how to have his relatives buy real estate, businesses which he funded, which his loyal relatives ran.
After a few yrs, the house was encumbered to the tune of all of its value. Then he walked out divorced her. She was living in a mortgaged home. He let the bank eat it, stiffed his loan; she was thrown out by the bank, onto the street as they auctioned off the house. The new owner remodelled and it's now worth a MILLION Which is why poor Corinne walks the streets drinking this endless bagged beer, falling down unconscious, getting hauled into jail
Her divorce settlement came up to court. She was too drunk to go. He got off with no alimony whatsoever. She couldn't afford a P.I. to find out which relatives got the half million bucks.
Marriage is a sacred institution. Clint sure benefitted from how sacred a lifelong union is.
NOTE: This just in, Corinne moved into her mother's trailer in the desert
after Mom died. She'll survive. 110 in the shade. Now, SOC SECURITY will
not give AID TO THE TOTALLY DISABLED to addicts or drunks so she's fresh
out of luck there, but here's the only goodnews if her liver
can survive til the day CLINT dies and if she finds out about it from her
two kids, she can go to the SOCIAL SECURITY system and get her WIDOW's
pension as she was married more than ten years. If you are married to a
guy nine years and 364 days, you will not get his pension. So watch the
calendars gals, watch the home equity because he can forge your signature!
